Hi all

Took a sunset walk around the park yesterday 14 Oct, with the main
interest being the number of Hardhead. Although these ducks are pretty
much a permanent feature of the park, I have never seen them in such
numbers before - although this may be due to the concentration of
roosting birds on their preferred ponds so late in the day. The
Hardheads were on 2 ponds only - Kensington Ponds and Duck Ponds. The
former held by my count 97 birds, and on Duck Ponds I put the raft at
199 birds, totalling 296 roosting Hardhead.

Also of interest was a single Pink-eared Duck in the main raft, a
species I haven't previously seen in Centennial. A single Sacred
Kingfisher was also present. There is a superb breeding plumaged Royal
Spoonbill on Kensington Ponds which allows very close approach and has
been there for several weeks now.
