'Just back from Mitchell Plateau again and saw Black Grasswrens near Little Mertens Falls. Both sides. On the left hand side early in the morning and on the right hand side later in the day. I presume they bounded right across the top of the Falls through the legs of unsuspecting tourists of which there were large numbers passing by.

However this is just to report that Surveyors Pool is now readily accessible. A road has just been pushed through and instead of about an 8km return walk it is now about 500m only. I visited there yesterday but as I was with non-birders I didn't check for Black Grasswrens but it looks promising despite some areas that appear to have been burnt last year. Thomas and Thomas mention it although I don't know if they personally visited it. I will be interested to see who is the first birder to report Black Grasswrens from the area.'

Surveyors Pool has long been recognised as a hot spot for Black Grasswren.
