For the sake of balance, let's not forget that both parties are culpable in
the "anti-environment" propaganda wars. See, for instance, Tasmanian Labor's
promotion of the pulp mill (and Gunns Limited's interests in general).

I think you will find that airing this documentary has little to do with
'boosting ratings', and everything to do with political appointees in
the ABC (courtesy of the Howard government) forcing these things to be
shown in the name of "balance". When this happens in other countries we
call it propaganda, political interference, or social engineering. You
can hear the same views on the ABC radio program "counterpoint" on
Monday afternoons.

The Howard government has been vigorously, and intelligently criticised
by informed members of the liberal party, believe it or not, who are to
say the least embarresed by the backwards thinking of the current
government. An expose by Guy Pearse, himself a member of the libs, and
former confidente of the PM has exposed the dirty tricks that the
government and polluting industries are up to. The work is an everyday
language version of the findings of Mr Pearse's PhD and it is called
"High and Dry". I recommend that everyone interested in conservation,
whatever point of view, read this book. Like a good objective
scientist, Mr Pearse has not let his party affiliation interfere with
reporting the facts as he has found them. He refers to the Howard
Government and its business ties as the "Greenhouse Mafia". Its a
rivetting read, even for someone with a cynical bent.
