Thanks Michael From the emails to birding-aus and to me direct it looks like flame robins are sometimes seen in numbers when not on the move. For example John Leonard wrote: "In Canberra they appear later on in the winter (June-July), and are occasionally seen in large numbers. I have had over 20 in one paddock a couple of times". I checked the birding-aus archive this morning [which I should have done yesterday !!] and found that others had reported in the late 1990s and later that sometimes groups of flame robins were seen over winter. Re arrival dates. I saw lots of flame robins in the mountains at the back of Marysville on 19/4/06 and a few at the top of Mt Gwinnear [Baw Baw NP] on 21/4/07. Have they settled here from higher up or were they still on the move? And I would still like to know where the Mornington Peninsula flame robins are coming from !! Regards Val |
