A few years ago Mark Holdsworth valued Orange-bellied Parrots at $35,000 apiece. Ignore CPI, and give the Regents a (conservative) price tag of 20 grand each - 40 of them adds up to $800,000. These blokes were fined a total of $1500, which works out at $37.50 a bird.

Aviary bred Regent parrots retail at around $100 to $150 each currently - so 40 would be worth up to $6,000. However their monetary value is immaterial, they seem to have got off lightly.
