Thanks to Murray for his insights.
I have also seen this book. I am not one to be overly critical as
anyone who puts the time and effort (and manages to find a
publisher!!) has done more than most. Also the plates are an advance
on the classic Harrison which was a monumental publication for it's
time but I also prefer the style in HANZAB which I still consider to
be the best I have seen.
I have no knowledge of the abilities or experience of the authors in
the field, however, I would raise caution over their criticisms of
others observations, experience and abilities. Indeed many records on
national lists have been subjected to peer review - I am not so sure
about some books!! Many of these records have been observed by people
who have extensive expertise and experience IN THE FIELD and are
backed up by photos.
I have briefly used their book to try to identify some species (ie
cabbage tree island and New Caledonian forms of the Gould's Petrel)
and found their observations to be the opposite of mine (and
prominent seabird experts that were with me).
Also on a brief look many of the occurrance maps appear to be
outdated and inaccurate.
