How much of the Rufous Whistler is rufous? Nankeen is an obscure term
named after "yellow or buff fabric, made originally from a natural
coloured Chinese cotton" according to the Mac dictionary. The MD also
defines the Nankeen Night Heron as "a small chestnut-brown, nocturnal
heron". Fascinating that it picked up on the rufous colour rather than
the "nankeen" underparts.
