On March 8 I observed a young king parrot being fed at the rim of a nesting
hollow in a large Eucalypt in my backyard (in Brisbane). It has not been
seen since so I presume it fledged. Counting back to laying date based on 35
days to fledging would suggest eggs were layed at the beginning of February.
HANZAB and other texts give the breeding period as September to January, so
this breeding event does seem a bit later than usual. King parrots fledged
young from this same hollow in mid November, raising the question whether
this was a second breeding event for the original pair or whether another
pair of parrots used the same hollow.
