The SiRF III chipset used in some of the new Garmin models and probably
other brands is reported to greatly improve reception under canopy and
other difficult conditions.  Dense rainforest may prevent any GPS unit
from operating due to the GPS signal being absorbed/reflected by the
leaves to the point that there isn't a signal to receive.  In those
situations, an antenna on a pole may be required - or find a clearing.
