Evan,
The bush birds retreat as the day heats up but that is no different to anywhere else. Today is so windy that the bush birds will be hard to get anyway. At dawn the Magpie Geese are usually out feeding. I often take guests to Hasties Swamp in the early afternoon when there is not much happening elsewhere. I still reckon that you are best to spend you time on the northern parts and leave this area until you have more time. Why spend two hours driving when you could be birding. Not that I want to keep you off my patch. On the contrary I want you to come and spend some time here, not just rush into one iconic site and off again.

Regards,
Alan
