Maybe an appropriate location for this exchange! While wild animals on the whole tend not to fight to the death, I wonder if the BUTCHERbird was inspecting the underdog of the magpie fight to see if it was hurt and could be finished off . Thus collecting a very substantial meal, probably for a nearby brood? A problem with this hypothesis is that I'm not sure how strong a flier a Butcherbird is and if it could actually transport a war-trophy of this size? Or do you think I am being too bloodthirsty? wendy |
