The interesting thing is that urban wetlands receiving stormwater run-off seem to have plenty of water. While the rain isn't filling the main water storages, every time I poke my nose round at the Sherwood Arboretum [Brisbane] the run-off from the last rain has re-filled the ponds and covered the mud.

Regards, Laurie.

It will not be much use looking for Shorebirds in the Hawkesbury this
year with all the major lagoons bone dry.

Yes, it appears it going to be worse this season if we do not get any
rain. Like many, I have never seen it so dry!!! I guess the waders and
terns on the east coast will have no choice but to use the estuaries/
permanent saline lakes on the coast which is where I would be looking
over this season.

In the Sydney area, East Lakes could be another hot spot this season and
perhaps Bicentennial Park!

We have an interesting few months (hopefully not into years) ahead on
how our birds are going to cope with this "long...long" drought.

Edwin
