Tim,
had a look at the streamertail at http://fohn.net/hummingbird- pictures/red-billed-streamertail.html and the bill is rather short and straighter than in in Whiteley's image, but I certainly can see the similarity in the tail depicted with Air Jamaica's logo. I guess we have to remember that Whitely was an artist rather than an illustrator, and certainly had a different view of the world and I imagine his Hummingbird image grew from a number species.

I have been regularly entertained by Spiderhunters in the gardens in Singapore and throughout Malaysia. They and the Sunbirds are delightful creatures to observe, I have great memories of a stay in Frasers Hill, Malaysia of a Streaked Spiderhunter flying through the front door of the Bungalow and working its way through the foyer and lounge room, gleaning insects from the cornices of the room. Once it had cleaned up the place to it satisfaction, zipped off through a window.
