I rethunk my answer and I have to say a Grey Shrike Thrush is more likley than my previous guesses. At first I didnt notice the whitish lores but did notice a darker mask behind the eye but maybe this is shadow. I recon a tiny bit of white can be seen on the right (camera right) side of the lower bird as well. I also tried the dodge tool in photoshop to try and clear up that dark eyepatch without much success but yes I agree on the Grey Shrike Thrush.
Cheers
Matthew

Yes I had the first impression of Babbler. I suspect that the white lore
spot on the upper bird may be part of a stripe extending further back but
masked by a shadow. However the bill in the upper bird doesn't appear to
have the curved point of a Babbler but it is also covered by the branch. The
bottom one looks quite pointed. There is just something about the way they
are standing that has a Babbler jizz but I would not stake my life on it.

Regards Rex

This is a funny one. Mum took the photo in southern far west NSW from memory, and apparently shows 2 birds of the same species. I have absolutely no idea what they could be and any help would be greatly appreciated.
