Hi,

Ken Shingleton has just called after re-finding the bird this morning.

Please note it is in a dangerous spot on the Pacific Highway and very wary. If you are planning on going you should talk to Ken as we don't want any accidents with birders in the hard shoulder! The Pacific Highway is dangerous at the best of times never mind when you're birding!

The NS is in a long thin drain along the EAST side of Pacific Highway at Summer Island. This is between the turn-off to Smithtown and the turn-off to South West Rocks. There is a small house on the west side of the highway with the number 1649 on a blue milk can letterbox. (Naturally this is 1649 Pacific Highway).

Ken advises that approaching birders should approach the drain from the NORTH (so go past this area if coming from the South and turn around where safe). Remember you will be slowing down on the hard shoulder.... TAKE CARE as this may be DANGEROUS with trucks etc.

Ken is on 02 6566 7846 and is happy to take calls and help out anyone if they are visiting. Ken advises the bird is very flighty and naturally being on the Hard Shoulder you should take care.

Good luck

Alan
