Birders,
Some of you might be familiar with the large amount of information gathering
and driving I did to try and find Glossy Black cockatoos. Neil Kirby got me
onto my first pair about a fortnight ago, and then this morning, as
predicted by the Turners, they have shown up in my front yard. At least they
can go on the home list now.
It seems to be 2 males, and I'm not really sure what they're up to. There's
a large Eucalypt growing up behind the house across the road, that they keep
circling and landing in, squabbling among themselves occassionally. The
resident Currawongs and Magpies aren't interested in them being there at
all, chasing them every time they take to the wing. I'm not sure what threat
they might be to them, but their displeasure is obvious. Do they compete for
nesting hollows? Are the Glossies that pragmatic that they would kill the
young of birds that might attack their young?
