The raptors are getting frisky! This morning at Bolton Pt Lake Macquarie a
pair of Baza were having aerial fun flying out over the lake and then back
to the bush.
This afternoon I watched three White-bellied Sea Eagles riding a thermal
that was feeding a large cumulus. They were so high that they looked much
smaller than the Welcome Swallows flying above me. Next thing one of them
disappeared into the cloud! A few minutes later, like a stealth attack, it
came out of the cloud in a high speed stoop straight at the other two,
pulling out at the last minute. All three then vanished into the cloud and
that was the last I saw of them; could hear their calls for a while and then
they were gone.
I've not seen any of the big soaring eagles disappear into the clouds
before. I've no idea how high they were but it must have been more than
1000m.
Cheers
Colin Driscoll
