I do find a rough north-south axis to Satin bowers here (SEQ, 500m).
It seems to be affected by season/angle of the sun.
Younger 'green' males who have reached the
practice-bower-building stage, though, will often not achieve the
'correct' compass orientation. These are bowers that the Friths refer
to, I think, as 'rudimentary' bowers.

Hello all,
I've just read a report that Satin Bowerbirds always orientate their
bowers on a north-south axis. Is this true? I'd love to hear
birding-ausers observations on bowerbird bower orientations.
