Hello all,
Thanks to those that responded to my request re Bowerbird orientation.
Most responses were that this is an old wives tale- with regard to Satin
Bowerbirds at least.
I'll be examining bowerbird bowers more closely from now on!
Cheers and thanks,
Mick

G'day Mike, Ricki & Birding Ausers
I never found uniform orientation in bowers of the Satin Bowerbird.
But what is not true of one species can be true of another. The
fawn-breasted Bowerbird does orient its avenue bower N-S and it has no
bright colours or sheens to display. I have measured with a compass
many bowers in PNG and will get to publishing those data when I get time.
Cheers
