Dear Eddie
Maybe it was the silver spoon they fed you with.
When I was a very new "serious" bird watcher in Australia I went on a club trip to Hong Kong and we had several visits to Mai Po Marshes, the big wetlands reserve in the then New Territories. Out on the mud flats our first visit, we saw one Spoonbilled Sandpiper. I was impressed but not as impressed as I've since become, finding out how rare they are and also that it wasn't seen again and therefore missed by the avalanche of bird watchers that descended on Mai Po the following week for the Great Bird Week twitch. You'd better head to Mai Po at a suitable time of year and perhaps it will be there! Like all bird hunts, however, there is never a guarantee, but that's what keeps us trying.

Hello all,
Since I was a kid I have always dreamed of seeing a Spoon-billed Sandpiper.
The funny thing is that I can't remember for the life of me why I am so hung
up about this species.
