Hi David and Tim,

So that's all well and good for NSW and VIC, but what about QLD.  I believe the tallies for the QLD twitchathon are up in the 250s, but I doubt it would be possible to achieve that in all but a few parts of the state.  I like the suggestion that you define regions that you aren't allowed to leave, and the yearly average for that region weights your tally.  Otherwise Brisbane would be weighted on the birds that can be seen in Cairns, which would be like Melbourne being weighted on birds seen in Brisbane.

I like the general idea, but it would take a lot of tweaking.

Sorry folks, it seems that it's either an argument about how bird species are in the Hunter or how to "nationalise" the twitchathon.  Someone needs to get out there and find a rare gull or something!

I still like the "Modified Dolby System".  The problem with the "percentage seen of the highest tally for your state"  is that teams in a state with a high record tally (eg 229 in NSW) will always be disadvantaged by what may have been an exceptional effort in one single year (not that 229 is going to prove to be in that category).  No, I think a ten-year average would be the better bench mark.  This would have the same effect while lessening the impact that a "one-off" high score may have.

Cheers
