I don't believe this is so. If the mailing list (that is, the
individual addresses on the list) had been harvested, those who post,
including me, would be getting spam individually. While I do get some
spam, I'm not getting the same set that I receive through B-A. What is
happening is the m("vicnet.net.au","birding-aus");"> adress has made it onto some
spam lists, not the individual addresses.

Hi Bill et al.

I'm afraid you might be mistaken Bill (and lucky!).  I recently, and
inadvertantly, conducted a live experiment on Birding-Aus.

Normally I mail BA from work, and I receive lots of spam - much of
which I attribute (without much evidence) to spammers harvesting
addresses from BA - probably from the archive(s) - the ISP's filter and
my Thunderbird e-mail package filter out just about all of it.

A few weeks ago I e-mailed BA from my relatively new home account -
where since opening it in January I've had no spam at all - the address
hasn't gone out on to mailing lists or mail archives.  Within about 2
days of mailing to BA, I started to receive spam at home.  It's hardly
a completely watertight methodology!!! ... but enough to convince me
that spammers harvest individual addresses from the BA archives.

I can't explain the inconsistency of experience between Bill and me.
