I'd not thought of that aspect.  It would offer so many opportunities to monitor things such as movements of individuals - gone would be those really annoying times when Regent honeyeaters only show one set of bands, or have lost a band, meaning that you are looking at one of a possible 16 individuals - but which one!

I assume such an application would remove the need for bird banding entirely, or would you need to program in each DNA individual profile to monitor specific birds?

I see that it's currently 4.2 degrees in Canberra (6.6 degrees in Dubbo).  I understand it's snowing, and 1.6 degrees, in Orange (at least on nearby Mt Canobolas). The cold must be interfering with our ability to think coherently.
