Thanks John & Andrew & Lorne & all. Yes, I said to this (very nice) man, how really beautiful the corridor of bush is, & how rich in birds. He told me he owned it, and said he would never sell it! Quite a young man, too, so as long as he's around, it looks good for this little special place. As for the chicken hunting raptor, he then went on to say that he 'got out' his bird book and 'had a look' -- and came up with Red Goshawk...
        So, well, maybe...

Judith.

Judith,
It sounds like a Red Goshawk, lucky bastard. I heard of a Red Goshawk
taking a farmer's chickens near Gympie.
John

Hi Judith
The Red goshawk springs to mind. Very fond of taking chooks ... even been
known to tackle peacocks, brush turkeys and black cockatoos. If it is a
Red, they are rare and I hope he doesn't harm it. Habitat and area both
sound quite feasible for Red goshawk.

Regards
Andrew
