SE over St Ives , 16 kms NW of Sydney CBD . This was followed about 1hour
later whilst I was watching a signwriter's attempt to defile a clear patch
of blue sky, by a single Needletail flying in the same direction . Humid
conditions ,sky dotted with cumulus cloud gentle breeze from the NW."

I don't know what time Reg Clark's sighting was, but over Bobbin Head Road
in Turramurra (about 1km up from the Pacific Highway) at about midday on
29/1 was a more substantial flock of about 70 birds at varying altitudes
displaying a number of interesting behaviours - several pairs higher up
doing high speed formation flying, the birds at low level definitely
cruising (if you can catch them in this mood with a camera in hand I reckon
you could get a decent photo - unfortunately I was otherwise engaged in the
garden) and, surprisingly, the whole flock was being vocal - I could clearly
hear them chittering to each other. One thing that strikes me about WTNTs
is how quiet they are compared to the common Swift (Apus apus) of Europe
which I "grew up with".
