While I've always used my full name on the list I just thought I'd add that
I have had 2 people correspond by email after locating me completely via
birding-aus posts.

While these were from people I'm glad were able to contact me due to the
information they had to share, for some people it could be the opposite
situation.

One contact, who I'd neglected to forward my new email address to when it
had to change, had a head start in that she recalled I "was in to birds";
the other had no such sort of information. The fellow birding-aus member
who they did contact in the attempt to find me did it in a very appropriate
manner, in that they emailed me with the searcher's email details if I in
fact wanted to reach them, which I did.

Nick-names, cyber names, whatever... are pretty common on the web. I've had
a standard one for 10 years that I still use when needed. It would be just
as easy to fake a real name.....

My 2 cents worth....

The Real Karen Pearson

Soon to be back in Melbourne.
