Hi Birdos

Whilst eating lunch at the Sydney airport viewing area on sunday I saw a large dark bird fly out from Brighton-le-sands towards the runway in Botany Bay. Part way, it was mobbed by gulls and turned and flew back towards the old control tower. It was a large very dark heron. the only bird I can think it was was Australasian Bittern (I have experience of common bittern in the UK, but not of the australian cousin)
did anyone else see the bird? Any ideas where it might have come from?
cheers

tony
