Hi all,

John Harris, Steve Davison and I saw the green-headed pochard-like bird
just before sunset today (4:45pm July 9) at the site mentioned by Mike
Carter. This is definitely a usual bird, with a dark greenish head,
nape and mantle. There was also possibly a tinge of whitish grey around
the base of the upper and lower mandibles.

Behaviourally it seems an independent bird, choosing to sit on
the ?pochard? rocks with a pair of Freckled Duck. It was quite
sensitive to our presence, so tread lightly. As we approached beyond
the gate the bird took to the water and swam south into Lake Borrie -
which contrasted with the Freckled Duck, which both stayed put.

John managed to get a few photo's, so let's keep our fingers crossed.

Tim
