How does one distinguish a Baer's Pochard from a Hardhead (aka Australian
Pochard)?

A friend to whom I passed on the message tells me that the "Handbook of
the Birds of the World" says the two may form a superspecies i.e. it's
very closely related and very similar. Playing Devil's Advocate and
armed with Occam's Razor :-), could this bird be just an aberrant Hardhead?
