And remember of course that the "Hertiage Fund", set up with the proceeds of the first Telstra Sale, although it did fund some useful projects, was mainly about pork-barrelling in marginal seats. Many projects of dubious merit were funded (oak trees planted around Lions Picnic sites was a favourite) and many of no merit were also funded (somewhere near Goulburn oak trees were planted in remnant native grassland).

Ah heritage, the last refuge of a scoundrel.
