G'day,
Thought it worth letting you all know that Hird's swamp near Cohuna in Northern Victoria has just been topped up with "environmental flows" and is now just about full.I recommend it as a place well worth a full day.Better still camp overnight and enjoy the cacophony of frogs which reaches deafening proportions! I spent a couple of hours there last night. The Sea-Eagles were surveying their domain as per usual. As dusk approaches many Ibis arrived from surrounding farmland to roost and as if on queue a pair of Brolgas glided in across the deep orange light of dusk.
Bitterns,Crakes and Brown Quail are all lurking and there were reports of Painted Snipe this winter so it seems that some have seen it through here. Bring some gumboots and wade the edges through the lignum.
You can't beat it!!!.
Regards Simon Starr
