Sightings

4 September

There was a  Rufous Bristlebird on walking track near Bird Rock, Jan Juc, thanks Hannie & Willem Groeneveld.

 

4 September

In East Gippsland there were 103 Royal Spoonbills at Port Albert, also 43 at Mann's Beach and 6 at McLaughlin's Beach, thanks Duncan Fraser

 

4 September

There were 5 Sharp-tailed Sandpipers at Pelican Point, Tooradin, thanks Damien Cooney.

 

2 September

A sighting of a large congregation of around 400 Australasian Gannets were seen feeding in Port Phillip Bay, off Aspendale Beach, thanks Jacqui Sheppard. 

 

30 August

A  female Brush Bronzewing present on a native flower farm west of Pyramid Hill, at least 40km through open farmland to nearest population, thanks Simon Starr

 

28 August

There were 2 Brolgas at Birregurra Creek Swamp, about 15 Km east of Colac, thanks Ian Davies.

 

26 August

There were Brown Gerygones at Morwell NP, as well as Red-browed Treecreeper, Varied Sittella, Scarlet Robin, Bassian Thrush, Lewin's, Crescent, Yellow-faced and Brown-headed Honeyeaters and Wedge-tailed Eagle, thanks Tania Ireton.

 

23 August

A white phase Grey Goshawk was seen at the Langwarrin Flora and Fauna Reserve, near the McClelland Drive car park.

 

23 August

A Magpie Goose ahs been seen on a farm between Cohuna & Koondrook, thanks Chris Coleborn.

 

22 August

1 juvenile Spotted Harrier at Lascelles NW Victoria, thanks Rohan Clarke.

 

22 August

Olive Backed-oriole in a garden in Rupanyup, quite unusual in this area, thanks Ian Morgan.

 

20-21 August

5 different Malleefowl seen by two observers in less than 24 hours, Bronzewing Flora and Fauna Reserve; at least 2 birds working mounds, thanks Rohan Clarke.

 

20 August

A Pied Butcherbird along the Dunmunkle Creek, 8 kms north of Rupanyup. 20/8/03.  Rare in this area, thanks Ian Morgan.

 

20 August

3 Swift Parrots in Brynterion Reserve 13 kms south of Rupanyup, thanks Ian Morgan.

 

20 August

2 Darters were seen at Holland's Landing - an unusual sighting in this area, thanks Duncan Fraser.

 

19 August

There was a Crimson Chat at Gapsted in the Ovens Valley, thanks Dexter Palmer.

 

Mid August

2 Common Mynas were seen in Wandiligong in North east Victoria, thanks Julie Hollow.


Updates


5 September

There are still 20 Freckled Duck at Newlyn Reservoir - near Creswick, Vic. Also present were 2 Red-necked Stint (one with an orange leg tag - indicating it was tagged in Victoria), Musk and Blue-billed Duck, Great Crested Grebe, Yellow-tailed Black-Cockatoo and Long-billed Corella, thanks Tim Dolby

 

18 August

2 Regent Honeyeaters can still be seen in the Chiltern-Mt Pilot National Park, thanks Aaron Organ.

 

13 August

The Swift Parrots seen at Pipemakers park were nearby sitting quietly in the top of a eucalypt adjacent to the car park and clubhouse (off Stanford St), thanks Jim Caine.

 

12 August

The mob of YTBC's, seen a couple of days earlier on the Merri Creek, were probably seen again flying upstream along the Darebin Creek Valley on the 12th, thanks Anthea Fleming.
