Hi all
Little Bittern was seen again between 9 & 10 A.M. on Monday and between 7 and 8 A.M. today. Of course it wasn't showing when I was there just after 10 A.M. on Monday armed with video camera ! The Baillons Crake was there again as well as a Spotless Crake near Snake Gully Junction ( mini-railway ). Also present were 3 Musk Ducks , 300 odd Pink-eared Ducks , 24 Hoary-headed Grebes as well as several Great Crested Grebes and the other more common Ducks & Grebes, Egrets all species, Spoonbills both species, Ibis Sacred and Straw-necked, Black Swans, Pelicans . Clamorous Reed Warblers plentiful and Little Grass Bird calling. Went via Ash Island on the way home where great views of an Australian Spotted Crake out in the open only a few metres away. Shortland Wetland Centre had several Australasian Shovelers and 5 Red-kneed Dotterels as well as a few Black-fronted Dotterels. Stockton Sandspit I visited briefly on the way home and it was nearing high tide. Quick counts were as follows :
Black-tailed Godwits  ~50
Bar-tailed Godwits 300-400
Easter Curlew       200-300
Red Knot                        3
Curlew Sandpiper   ~150
Pied Oystercatcher    8
Black-winged Stilt    200
Red-necked Avocet   ~ 2500
Gull-billed Tern         80  95% in breeding plumage
Crested Tern              4
Silver Gulls                6
Australian Pelicans   10
Having close views through the scope of all the Avocets crammed together is a magnificent sight to behold.
All up a great weekend with 130 species seen.
