Backing on to Waldrons Swamp, between Moruya and Batemans Bay: a flock of 80 (at least) Nankeen Night Heron rising and settling due to Hobby in midst at 10am. (mid December). 25 birds still very visible any time of day, and will always flutter if disturbed.
AND back to the kookaburra on the ground sighting, - in Virginia Parry's book 'Kookaburras', it was suggested that fledglings went to ground from hollow, maybe humans have been interfering too early. Joan Fearn
