Hi folks,

I'm off in January to live in Hong Kong for a while - at least a year, perhaps more. I would appreciate any birding tips that anyone could give.
In particular:
Any "special places" to go birding (we will be living up in the New Territories, so at least there will be some greenery around). Mai Po marshes - am I correct in understanding that you need a permit to go here unless you're on a tour? Are permits hard to get?
Best field guide?
Reputable dealers for binoculars/scopes (Maybe I'll get those Swarovski binoculars that I've been drooling over for years!)

Cheers,
Koren
