Beached shearwaters

I had a call from a friend on the Gold Coast...they have had hundreds of "mutton
birds" washed up on their beaches also this week.  The life savers took 100 to
the Currumbin Sancturary and managed to save a dozen of them.

This is a fascinating phenomenon.
