Birders who have been to see the Northern Pintail may be interested in another southern hemisphere record of this species. In August 1993, my wife and I saw a male Northern Pintail in fresh plumage near Valparaiso in Chile. This bird was associating with Yellow-billed Pintail. I assumed at the time that it was probably a 1st for Chile although I did not follow it up, given my very limited Spanish! As I am currently on holiday in Australia, I do not have full details of this record to hand but I will be able to supply them on my return to the UK in early September.

Regards,

Paul James
