Just finished doing a flauna survey on privite land near Grose Vale, during which a PAIR of Fan-tailed Cuckoos were observed. Must being staying overwinter! Are there many records of Fan-tailed Cuckoos during the winter period around Sydney?

Cheers

Hi Mark,

yes they are quite common in the (greater) Sydney region during the cooler months. Am not sure how their numbers fluctuate but I seem to hear their call more often during the warmer months. Whether this reflects more calling or an increased number of birds I don't know.

Regards, Andy
