Magpie breeding

In Canberra the local Magpies have responded to the exceptional season by 
more or less continuous breeding.
Back in July 1999 people started noticing them beginning nesting very 
early, and they carried on all through the spring, summer and autumn. In 
our street the local pair took a rest round about April, but the results of 
their activities are obvious: instead of the usual pair with one or so 
juveniles we now have a flock, with four or fives juveniles/immatures in 
various stages of plumage. And the original pair are beginning to get toey 
again (chasing the postie). In other parts of the ACT I hear that Magpies 
have been nesting right through the first part of winter.
