Hello Birders,
Can anyone suggest a reference that explains methods for the surveying of
birds in the wild?
I have to survey a 25 ha'ish site and I wanted do it in a more formal
manner than wandering up and down with bin's and a field guide. If there
was a cheap and easy way for an amateur to survey mammals I would also like
to do that.
Any thoughts would be most welcome.
On an birding note a couple of weeks ago we saw a Spotted Quail-Thrush on
the road between Beechworth and Chiltern near Mt Pilot. It wandered of the
side of the road and then gave us some excellent views not far away.
A new tick for me and the highlight of a lovely, though largely
non-birding, weekend. Other birds on a short walk included:
White-throated Treecreeper Cormobates leucophaeus
Buff-rumped Thornbill Acanthiza reguloides
Grey Fantail Rhipidura fulignosa
White-browed Scrubwren Sericornis frontalis
Sacred Kingfisher Todirhamphus sanctus
Crested Shrike-tit Falcunculus frotnatus
Striated Thornbill Acanthiza lineata
Dusky Woodswallow Artamus cyanopterus
Rufous Whistler Pachycephala rufiventris
Laughing Kookaburra Dacelo novaeguineae
Red-browed Finch Neochima temporalis
White-plumed Honeyeater Lichenostomus penicillatus
