I guess this latter question all comes down to why people collect certain
bits of information.  Is it just because that is what they were trained to
do and thus automatically do it without really thinking about why?  What is
this information being used for?

I can tell you that this conversation has been having a big effect on me! I am engaged in a painting of Regents and had just painted the male with a healthy pink glow when I read the first correspondence and rushed away to scrub it out, then spent the whole of the next day patching it and repainting it yellower. You never know who is out there to whom the information matters so keep it up!
