BIG SYDNEY DAY OUT - IST FEBRUARY 1998

Yesterday (Sunday, 1st February 1998), myself, Trevor Quested and Tony
Palliser went on a mission to find as much species in one day within the
boudaries of the Sydney Region. This is the area bounded by the
Hawkesbury-Nepean River to the north and west, the Cataract River and Dam
to the South aswell as to the Pelagic waters in the east.. From 6:30 am
to 8 pm we recorded a little over 150 species and covered some of
Sydney's best birding spots with a variety of habitats ranging from the
Sea to Dry Woodland and from Rainforest to Heath. Highlights included:

Various Duck species at Bushs Lagoon at Richmond (off Triangle Lane)
including an Australian Shelduck, 2 Plumed Whistling Duck, Hardhead and
36 Pink-eared Ducks)

A Baillons Crake at Bushs Lagoon

A Black-tailed Godwit at McGraths Hill STW

2 Arctic Jaegars off Cape Solander

An adult Powerful Owl at Mitchell Park

An Azure Kingfisher at Royal National Park

Tawny-crowned Honeyeaters at the Royal National Park

Green Catbird at Royal National Park

This was an enjoyable day and a great way to see Sydney's Varied
Birdlife.
