Eastern Yellow Robin call

Hello Greg, Carol and others.

I thought I knew the white-plumed honeyeater calls, too, having grown up with them in and Around Adelaide. But the early morning "chop, chop" calls I hear at Inglewood have a "honeyeater quality" and there are very few other candidates. (Little friarbirds are here, as well, and I have considered them. But I am less sold on this idea.)

Having said this, your call may very well belong to a yellow robin. In south-western Queensland they can tend to be found a good distance inland.

All The Best,
Mike

Hi Greg, Mike and all,

I don’t have the reference to hand but I remember reading that White-plumeds’ pre-dawn calls have been found to vary greatly from place to place - even within a short distance - while the more well-known daytime calls are less variable. Personally, in some places I’ve heard them make calls before sunrise that I wouldn’t have recognised as White-plumed closer to home, only working out what they were by a process of elimination and the fact that whatever was calling seemed to be the dominant species.

Cheers,
Carol

Hi Mike,

White-plumed Honeyeaters are certainly common at the site but I grew up with them in our local area (Woolooware in southern Sydney) and have had plenty of experience with them inland so I don’t think that it is the culprit, but it could be.

Greg
