In my area I use generalized descriptions of the sites of unusual birds on
private property to try to avoid such a situation. That does at least keep
people out of the paddocks and gardens. If anyone desperately needs finer
detail they can ask me and their case for access will be considered in
discussion with the relevant landholder.
I heard from one landholder that birders spent some time driving up and
down a nearby road looking for some birds which bewildered me (and the
landholder) as I had said that the birds were not visible from the road. I
had thought it worth mentioning the presence of the birds as a general note
that they were in the area and other known sites should be checked.
I think this proved a comment made some years ago that "The problem with
making things idiot-proof is that they keep making bigger idiots."
