Thank you to all those who responded both publicly and privately to my request for advice on suitable bird field guide books for Java. The majority opinion came down to two books: 1. The 2004 reprint of MacKinnon, J. & Phillipps, K. (1993). A Field Guide to the Birds of Borneo, Sumatra, Java and Bali (Oxford University Press, Oxford). 2. Strange, M. (2012). A Photographic Guide to Birds of Indonesia. 2nd ed. (Turtle Publishing, Tokyo).
