Yes, by all means any support whether it be cash or a bag of seed would be
appreciated.
Imagine the cost of feeding 20 Owls, Kites, Kestrels plus a hungry
Wedge-tail, a lot of Rats, Mice and Rabbits needed.
Has many Cockatoos, Corellas, Galahs and Parrots due to car injuries when
they are feeding on spilt grain on the roadsides.
They badly need to expand with more holding cages and aviaries etc as the
rescue numbers are increasing and they need more room.
You can see by the photos of the Kookaburras, the cages are a bit primitive
but they do the job.
Did you read the great rescue story on the web site of the three Kookaburras
hatched in the outside Pizza Oven at Rushworth, when the
parents couldn’t find a suitable hollow to nest in.
Kirsty tells of the shortage of old trees with nesting hollows in them in
the Ironbark Forrest in the area.
These two dedicated women have their hearts in the right spot.

I went back and picked it up and although its wings were alright it was

at Bunbartha 30 km back in the direction I had come.
She informed me she was due to have a baby any day and could not drive so I
turned around and took the bird who was not looking to good by now back to
her place out near
the "Lock Garry " on the Goulburn River.
I was amazed what this woman is doing with two young boys and now a new
baby with only some help from her mother over Christmas, she cares from
between 100 to 120 birds
or more most times and very rarely less than a hundred plus reptiles,
Echidnas, Bats, Flying Foxes etc leaving the Kangaroos, Gliders etc to
another carer Deb Fowler.
There were 40 raptures in her care plus Pelicans, Cockatoos, Galahs,
Parrots, Magpies, and many more you name it she was caring for it.
Kirsty has been doing this for over 22 years and talking to her one can see
she has a wealth of knowledge on rehabilitation of wildlife.
Her rescues covers Southern N S W plus all northern Victoria, travelling
doesn't leave much time to do the massive job she is trying to do.
Many are being reared from small chicks and the night I was there she was
releasing 7 Boobook Owls with 5 more later on with 5 Barn Owls reared
from chicks.
There were Kestrels and Hobbies still in the area that had been released
earlier and still pay her a visit now and then and a Magpie annoying me as I
talked to her.
Some birds are reared and cared for over 6 months.
This women with a great desire to help wildlife is struggling for finance
for feed, fuel for pickups, cost of running her car, vets, building
material, tools etc with no Government Assistance.
Her account for 2 kg of mealworms plus 150 pinky mice flown down from Qld is
$247 per fortnight, $150 a week for seed, plus there is a massive cost for
fish for the Pelicans and
there are Rats ,Mice, Cockroaches and Crickets plus all the powders for the
chicks and the medication.
Fills her car with fuel at least twice a week and cash is needed for more
flight aviaries.
That is some of her bills for January but they are substantially higher
when
breeding season is in full swing and a lot more chicks are bought in, any
one that has hand raised Cockatoos, Parrots
etc know the massive task involved let alone doing dozens of them.
