Woodswallows over northern Sydney

Having spent a bit of time cleaning the debris from my pool yesterday
afternoon, my guess is they were following a swarm of flying ants. Would be
interesting to see if other reporters can also determine (guess?) food source.
Cheers

Several people have seen them (both species) in Canberra today (including
me, over my house whilst hanging out clothes) and recent days.

Hi Tom et al.

I was staying at the in-laws on Burns Rd in Wahroonga (northern Sydney)
yesterday. I was excited to hear then see (presumably) the same flock of
Masked and White-browed Woodswallow a little before 10.30am yesterday.
Burns Rd is approximately 1km from Tom's sighting.

Was great to see the flock. I didnt get a full count like your did Tom as
the tall trees obscured full view of the flock but I saw about 30 birds, at
least 5 were Masked.

The flock was circling interestingly low unlike usual woodswallow flocks
which often fly quite high. No other species interracted with them while I
watched.

I used to see larger flocks over East Killara (app. 10km away) when I lived
there from 2009 - 2012. They often appeared ahead of hot dry weather.

Regards,

Kurtis Lindsay
