Subject: Where are the Pallid Cuckoos this year?
Maris may have some truth in her "Sunny West" statement.
We have just driven from Melbourne to and from Perth and Albany and
heard Pallids en route. I have not heard any around Melbourne in the
9 years I have lived here. I recall hearing a nature talk on radio
50 years ago saying spraying in Vic was reducing their numbers in
parts of Vic.
We heard them at Merridin, and Meckering, and probably other places
but I have not got all the sightings into the computer yet. We saw
and heard many more fan-tailed Cuckoo across South and Western
Australia. We even saw a Sacred Kingfisher watching closely from 1
metre; a pair copulating on the power line at Cheyne Beach, East of
Albany.
Cheers
Mike
