Hello everyone,
I received this extraordinary video from a friend in the UK
https://www.youtube.com/embed/qoaEBb4IN4Q?rel=0
The magpie could have been hand-reared in the household in close company
with the puppy, and learnt 'dog-play' - even though there are apparently
another dog and a cat there as well. But maybe not. I have come across a
video of a wild corvid developing an intimate relationship with a cat -
even to the extent of feeding it tidbits. Australian Magpies (and other
highly social bird species like Galahs) are known to play - even rolling
down slopes for fun. I just did a quick google search and found quite a few
videos showing unnatural friendships between birds and pets - mainly
budgies and cockatiels associating intimately with domestic cats. A
solution to the feral cat problem? Get them to learn to love birds!
Cheers, Richard
