Hi all,

I agree with John that the first Masked Owl call on Pizzey is a Barn Owl. The second Masked Owl call is a slightly atypical call. I don't have the Morcombe app. but I know that Dave Stewart has a good variety of Masked Owl calls on his CDs and I presume that these are used on the Morcombe app. I would also go for Pizzey over Morcombe for the illustrations but many people find Morcombe's field guide more user-friendly.

Regards

Greg

Hi Richard,

For the field guide (illustrations, info etc.) I would go for Pizzey over Morecombe, but if the calls are the most important thing for you I would be tempted to go with Morecombe as I find the calls in that app better, as well as easier to access. They also work even if you've got your phone on silent (the Pizzey calls don't, for me at least - a minor thing but it drives me nuts at times). That said, the Pizzey calls are perfectly serviceable, though I notice that the first Masked Owl recording is a Barn Owl

Cheers,
John
